Maximizing Social Security Benefits

The session will explain— the history of Social Security, how the system is funded, how to become eligible for benefits, what ages you can start receiving benefits, how payment amounts are calculated, and steps you can take to maximize benefits for you and your family. In addition to this, our speaker Andy Panko, will cover relevant current events as it relates to Social Security and offer his thoughts on the future of the system.

Navajo Code Talkers

The Woodbridge Main Library presents Navajo Code Talkers, hosted by former US Marine officer and Vietnam combat veteran, Don Buzney on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 7PM. Don will explore the critical role a thousand year old language played in winning the war in the Pacific, during World War II. Don will trace the origin of their language, its specific use during the war, and the way in which the coded messages were transmitted without ever being detected by enemy soldiers.

National Voter Registration Day Drive

Have you moved and changed your address recently? Has someone you know just turned 18?  Join us for National Voter Registration Day and update your voter registration. Bring your current ID and stop by the Woodbridge Main Library on September 25.  Fill out the form and volunteers (from the League of Women Voters) will collect your form and deliver it to the Middlesex County Board of Elections.
 
National Voter Registration Day is a national holiday celebrating our democracy. It was first observed in 2012 and has been growing in popularity every year since. It is held on the fourth Tuesday of September. The holiday has been endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS). It is further supported by the National Association of State Election Directors (NASED).

Volunteer Tutor Training

Imagine if you couldn't read a prescription, job application, bedtime story or ballot. Become a volunteer literacy tutor and help adults improve their reading, writing, or English skills. Just two hours a week of working with an adult student will change his or her life—and yours.  
 
Literacy New Jersey needs volunteers to work as tutors, helping adults with reading, writing, speaking English, and math. Students and tutors meet at a location convenient to both, such as a local library. Location is determined by student and tutor.
