For Readers

Looking for a good mystery? A how-to on home renovation? A travel guide for Las Vegas? A biography on Hemingway for a term paper? You'll find all these and more in our book collection. The Woodbridge Library meets both your information and leisure needs with over 460,000 volumes, circulating and reference.

Special print collections include large print, young adult, test preparation and Adult Basic Reading/English as a Second Language (Main Library only.) The Main Library carries books in Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Gujarati and Hindi. The Library also maintains a collection of over 21,000 non-print items. All agencies have extensive DVD/Video collections of both current and classic feature films, while the Main Library also circulates educational videos, compact discs, language tapes and recorded books on tape and CD.

Electronic Resources

The Woodbridge Library has an extensive collection of Internet subscription databases available for public use at the library. All of the titles listed below are available at the Main Library. Branch libraries have selected titles. Some databases can also be accessed from your home or office computer if you have a Woodbridge Public Library card. Get remote access.

Periodicals

The Woodbridge Library carries over 500 titles, which include some academic and trade journals as well as popular magazines and newspapers. The collection is supported by periodical indexes in paper and online formats.

The Periodicals Department at the Main Library has extensive retrospective holdings on microfilm for many titles, including the New York Times back to 1851, the Home News and Tribune back to 1967, Time back to 1938 and National Geographic back to 1910. The Department has microfilm reader-printers, including two in digital format. The Department also houses some local area newspapers dating back to the 1920s/1930s and some high school yearbooks. The Department can be reached at ext. 7160.

The Fords, Henry Inman and Iselin Branches have select collections of magazines. All agencies have a collection of circulating magazines with a loan period of two weeks.

Government Documents

The Woodbridge Public Library is a Congressionally designated depository for selected federal government publications, both print and online. Learn more about our federal depository collection and the services we offer.

Local History & Woodbridge Genealogical Information

The Woodbridge Library has a special collection of local history materials, photographs and limited genealogical information. Access to this collection is by appointment only. To make an appointment or to make local history inquiries, contact Wendi Rottweiler via email or at 732-634-4450, ext. 7125. Woodbridge Library visitors can access AncestryPlus at the Main and branch libraries. We also will process your requests for the Census Microfilm Rental Program - call 732-634-4450, ext. 7120.

Services

Interlibrary Loan

Books and other materials that are not owned by the Woodbridge Public Library can be borrowed for you from other libraries in New Jersey or across the country. Please read our Interlibrary Loan policy for complete details.

Filling out one of the forms starts the process without requiring you to visit one of our libraries to request an item. You will be notified when the item arrives. We will contact you if more information is needed, or if there is a change in the status of your request. If you have a problem submitting the form, please call the reference desk and place your request with the librarian.

Please do not use this form to request items that are listed in this catalog. If an item is listed in the catalog but is not currently on the shelf, please follow the instructions to place a hold on that title.

Current Best Sellers that are not listed in this catalog and books that are not yet published are not available through Interlibrary Loan. Please speak to a librarian to request these titles.

If you are willing to accept any edition of the book, i.e. hardcover, paperback, etc. then provide us with the author and title only.

If you are requesting a specific edition or volume of a title, then provide us with the author and title, and as much information as you know about the publisher, publication date, and/or ISBN.

Computer Terminals for Public Use

Public computers are available for Internet searching at all agencies of the Library on a walk-in and/or appointment basis. Both color and black and white printers are available. Call your local branch for more information. Librarians will answer your questions on using the Internet and advise you on the resources available there and how to access them.

All agencies also have computers with Microsoft Word and Excel on them suitable for preparation of reports and resumés. Call ahead for an appointment.

Wireless Access

Woodbridge Public Library provides free wireless Internet access to library users with appropriately equipped and configured laptop computers, PDAs, or other Internet-enabled portable devices. Wireless Internet access is available at the Main Library and at all branch libraries. Please read our Wireless Access Policy for complete details.

Public Fax Service

The Woodbridge Main Library has a public fax machine that requires the use of a credit/debit card. The machine only sends faxes; it cannot receive them. For faxes to the United States, Canada and the Carribean, the cost is $1.75 for the first page plus $1 for every page thereafter. International faxes cost $3.95 for the first page plus $3.45 for every page thereafter. If you do not have a credit/debit card or prefer not to use one please see a list of nearby public faxes.

Local Notaries Public

Need a Notary Public? The Woodbridge Public Library currently provides notary services. Please refer to our Notary Service Policy and consider calling in advance to ensure we can meet your notary needs.

New Jersey Library for the Blind & Handicapped

The Woodbridge Public Library is a service center for the New Jersey Library for the Blind and Handicapped (NJLBH), offering certain free services to all print-handicapped New Jersey residents. NJLBH offers a wide variety of the same kinds of informational and recreational books that are available in an active public library. Braille newspapers and magazines, talking books, records and cassettes on loan, as well as the use of a machine to play them, are available to registrants with disabilities. Homebound Services

Woodbridge residents who are restricted or confined to home may have books selected and delivered to them. Please contact Natalie McGrath via email or at 732-634-4450, ext. 7133.

Bestsellers Club

You can automatically be placed on the holds list for new hardcover fiction books by the authors you choose. The list will be shuffled with each new title. Complete the online form and click on the "Join" button at the bottom of the page. If you wish to make changes to the form before submitting it, click on "Reset."

The LibraryAware service allows you to enjoy annotated introductions to books in any of the areas of interest listed!

Click on a newsletter title to read the latest edition, or sign up for email delivery of as many newsletters as you want. For email delivery, click in the box next to each newsletter you wish to receive, type your name, email address and a password of your choosing in the boxes provided, then click on Subscribe. You will receive the latest newsletters right away, and continue receiving monthly or bimonthly updates (depending on the list) until you decide to end your subscription.
