Appoints Five New Police Officers to Ranks

 

New Officers Take-Up Patrol Assignments

 

Woodbridge – Mayor John E. McCormac today announced the appointment of five new police officers to the ranks of the Woodbridge Township Police Department (WPD).  The officers completed the state-mandated six-month police training program at the Cape May County Police Training Academy and will immediately take-up patrol assignments on the streets of Woodbridge Township.  The appointments were approved after the recruits successfully completed an extensive testing and eligibility process overseen by the New Jersey Department of Personnel, New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and the Woodbridge Police Department.

“I am pleased to announce the appointment of five new police officers to the ranks of the Woodbridge Township Police Department,” Mayor McCormac said.  “The public safety mission of the Woodbridge Police Department is our most important priority.  As a result of our commitment to public safety, combined with the increased assignment of uniformed officers to street patrol, the Woodbridge Police Department continues to maintain police ranks at a maximum staffing level of 196 sworn officers effectively protecting public safety.”

Joining Mayor McCormac to announce the appointment of the new police officers were Police Director Robert Hubner; Deputy Police Director Joseph Nisky; Captain Scott Kuzma, Chief Law Enforcement Officer; Municipal Clerk John Mitch; Municipal Council President Debbie Meehan; Councilwoman Nancy Drumm; Councilman Brian Small;, Councilman Gregg Ficarra; WPD Command Staff; Ranking WPD Officers; family and friends. 

The five newly appointed WPD Patrol Officers are:

Police Officer David Torres

Police Officer David Torres, 34, grew up in Staten Island and took up residence in Colonia in 2014.  Officer Torres served in the United States Marine Corps from 2005 to 2011 and was deployed to Iraq as a tilt-rotor airframe specialist mechanic.  Officer Torres received service awards and decorations for his active-duty deployment.  Prior to being hired by the Woodbridge Police Department, Officer Torres was employed as a chemical technician at Proctor and Gamble in Avenel.

 

Police Officer Stephen Joseph Kuzma

Police Officer Kuzma, 24, is a resident of the Iselin section of Woodbridge Township.  Officer Kuzma graduated from John F. Kennedy Memorial High School in 2011. Following High School graduation, Officer Kuzma enlisted in the United States Army. During his enlistment, Officer Kuzma was deployed to Afghanistan and served as a Military Police Officer. Officer Kuzma also received active duty deployment awards and decorations. Following his military service, Officer Kuzma enrolled in Kean College and continues work towards a degree in Criminal Justice. 

 

Police Officer Adam Romatowski

Police Officer Adam Romatowski, 32, is a resident of Avenel.  Officer Romatowski was born in Poland and immigrated to the United States with his family when he was 8 years old.  After obtaining US citizenship, Officer Romatowski served in the United States Marine Corp Reserve from 2005 to 2012 and was deployed to Iraq.  Officer Romatowski received active duty awards and decorations upon completing his military deployment.  Prior to being hired by the Woodbridge Police Department, Officer Romatowski served as a New Jersey State Corrections Officer.

 

Police Officer Owen Matthew Sharkey

Police Officer Owen Sharkey, 28, resides in the Iselin section of Woodbridge Township.  Police Officer Sharkey graduated from John F. Kennedy Memorial High School in 2008. Following graduation, Officer Sharkey served in the United States Army from 2010 to 2015 and was deployed to Afghanistan where he served as a Military Police Officer. Officer Sharkey received active duty awards and decorations upon completing his military deployment.  Officer Sharkey currently serves in the United States Army Reserve.  Prior to being hired by the Woodbridge Police Department, Officer Sharkey was a dispatcher at Fords Fire Department District #7.

Police Officer Jessenia Minsal

Police Officer Jessenia Minsal, 26, is a resident of Port Reading.  Officer Minsal graduated from Woodbridge High School in 2009.  After graduation, Officer Minsal served in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer and was stationed at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.  During her service, Officer Minsal received active duty deployment awards and decorations.  Officer Minsal continues to serve in the US Army National Guard. Prior to being hired by the Woodbridge Police Department, Officer Minsal worked as a Loss Prevention Officer for Shoprite.
